Not everyone has the luxury of going to the “health club” for a workout. When you are in the field, your body becomes your gym.

Here are some common job requirements of a tactical operator in SWAT, special operations, conventional military, and law enforcement.

Your tactical strength and conditioning program should prepare you to do the following bodyweight movements until they become second nature.

Run
Jump
Dodge
Climb and surmount
Chin
Creep
Run, jump, and vault
Hook and Swing
Drop
Climb ladders and cargo nets
Traverse horizontal objects by hand
Traverse horizontal ropes or pipes
Traverse horizontal ladders
Vault
Balance
Crawl
Throw
Fall

Once you’ve mastered these moves in shorts and a tee shirt, go ahead and try them in half of your duty gear. After that, use your full kit.

Just remember that “full kit” weighs over 100 pounds for some operators. And the more load you carry, the higher the risk of injury. To save your joints, focus on low-impact movements (like crawling and creeping) when you are kitted up with everything but the kitchen sink.
